Consult Multilingual WordNet

This web application allows consulting the data contained in the different WordNets and navigating throw them. The consulting refers to exploring the relations of an item that can be a Word, a Synset, a Variant or an ILI and the navigation consists of going from a Wordnet to another also using an item. The application consists of two frames, the top frame with the different search parameters and the bottom frame which displays the query results. The different search parameters, that may help the user making an accurate query, are:

• Item: the item to search for, it can be a Word, a Synset a Variant or an ILI.

• SubSearch: the subtype of search (if type is Synonyms possible subtypes are: near_synonym, xpos_near_synonym).
• WordNet Source: the WordNet from which navigate.
• Navigation WordNet: the WordNet to which navigate.
• Gloss: if ticked shows the glosses of the Synsets.
• Score: if ticked shows the confidence factor.
• Rels: if ticked shows information about the relations that each Synset has in all the target languages.
• Full: if ticked makes a recursive search.
• Taget WordNets: the target WordNets of our search.

Automatic Translations

WEI 8.0 includes a new feature to automatic translation of definitions and examples from other WordNets. Suggestions will appear below the existing ones, and may choose the most appropriate. Where possible, the translations of the glosses will be made from all available languages (the examples are translated only from English).

Gloss Translation

The following image is an example of how to choose an automatically translated gloss (step 1). After your choice, the content of field "Gloss" will change, and only remains to save the changes (step 2):

Examples Translation

The following sequence shows how to add new machine translated examples to a synset. First, we must choose (step 1) those that look interesting (you may need to correct them):

When you are agree, click the "Add example" button (step2) and selected examples will be loaded into the "Examples" list. If you made a mistake selecting an example you can delete it by pressing the button marked as "X" (optional step):

To conclude only remains to compete the fields "Word" and "Sense" (step 3) and confirm the changes (step 4):

Marks and notes

In WEI 8.0 includes you can assign a mark to a variant or synset that indicates especial properties of that variant or synset. You can also write a small note to explain better why yoy have assined that mark.

Variant marks

The marks available for variants are:

RARE: Old fashioned variant. INFL: Inflected. DUBLEX: Dubious lexicalization. SUBCAT: Subcategorization. VULG: Vulgar or offensive.

Synset marks

The marks available for synset are:

HYPLEX: Hypernym has identical lexicalization SPECLEX: Domain specific terms that should be checked GENLEX:Non-lexicalized general concepts that are introduced to better organize the hierarchy
